ÅNDALSNES-BJORLI
- Norway's most beautiful train ride

Length: 50 km
Duration: 1 hour

Åndalsnes-Bjorli, 1 hour

Join a guided experience-packed train ride through the most spectacular mountain formations in Norway! The Rauma Railway runs guided tours from Åndalsnes to Dombås during the summer season (26.5-26.8), returning to Åndalsnes. After more than 40 years of planning, the northern part of West Norway finally got its railway line when the Rauma Railway opened 29 November 1924. Building the line entailed some major challenges, including large height differences between the railway and the valley floor. This was solved by the “winding” tunnels of Stavem and Kylling by Verma. The unique Kylling Bridge (J7) 32 , built in gneiss granite, spans the river Rauma. It took ten years to build and is a marvellous feat of engineering. Since its opening over 80 years ago, the Rauma Railway has carried tourists to and from cruise ships in the Romsdalsfjord, transported the Bank of Norway’s gold reserves during World War II and served as a night train with mail carrying service right up until 2000. The train runs up the beautiful Romsdalen valley and gets close to steep mountains, the wild salmon river Rauma as it travels down the valley, and exceptional engineering. In the summer season the train will go at a slower pace through the most spectacular places, to give you extra time to enjoy the majestic scenery. You get to experience the Trollveggen wall and the crossing of no less than 32 bridges, including the impressive Kylling Bridge. In order to manage the ascent of the railway, the train makes a 180-degree bend inside the mountain before continuing the trip. You can choose to get off at Bjorli for a coffee break, before returning to Åndalsnes. Bjorli is a popular winter resort, known for its long winters with guaranteed snow. Alternatively, you can continue your trip to Dombås, with connections to Oslo or Trondheim.
