Lesja (2253 km2) is the biggest municipality in Oppland, and is located on both sides of the Romsdalen valley and of the 10 km long Lesjaskogvatnet lake, where the river Gudbrandsdalslågen runs eastwards and the river Rauma westwards. The lakes Aursjøen and Gautsjøen are located in the mountains to the north with the main reservoir for the Aura-power station. Lesja is a typical mountain village. 82 % of the municipality's surface area is located over 900 m.a.s. With its wonderful nature and big mountain areas, there are many opportunities for outdoor activities. This municipality has one of the largest wild reindeer stocks in the country, and there are many lakes teeming with fish. Lesja Bygdetun and Lesja Church are open during the summer season. A hiking trip over the Slådalsvegen road to Vågå is a great nature experience.
